How to Set Up Your Salon in SupaDay the First Time

5 min readUpdated

Quick answer

Right after you sign up, SupaDay opens Set up your salon. Check the suggested services and prices, then click Looks good, next. Set your opening hours and time zone, add the people who work with you, pick Mostly walk-ins, Mostly appointments or Both, and click Finish setup.

Open in SupaDay
  1. Add your services
  2. Invite your team
  3. Switch on online booking
  4. Taking bookings

The first time you sign in, SupaDay walks you through four short screens so you can take a client the same day. You start with services and prices already filled in for your kind of business, so most of the work is checking them and fixing what doesn't match.

Check your services and prices

The first screen, Your services, lists typical services for the business type you picked when you signed up (nail salon, hair salon, barbershop, spa, lash & brow or other). Each row has a Service name, Minutes and Price ($).

  1. Change any name, length or price that doesn't match your menu.
  2. Click the X on a row to remove a service you don't offer.
  3. Click Add a service to add one that's missing.
  4. Click Looks good, next.

Every service needs a name and at least 5 minutes, and you need to keep at least one. You can add the rest of your menu later in Services.

Tip: Not ready? Click Skip for now to go straight to your dashboard. You can come back to setup from the Get started checklist.

Set your opening hours

On Your opening hours, each day starts as Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM, with Sunday closed.

  1. Untick a day to mark it Closed, or tick it to open it.
  2. Set the opening and closing time for each open day.
  3. Check the line under the days that says which time zone your times are in. If it's wrong, click Change and pick your Time zone.
  4. Click Next.

These hours become your salon's business hours, and you work them too, so clients can book you right away. You can change them any time in Settings.

Add the people who work with you

The Who works with you? screen adds staff by name only. They show up in the turn tracker and calendar right away and work your opening hours. They don't get a login.

  1. Type a name in the box that says Name, e.g. Lily.
  2. Add a number in Phone (optional) if you like.
  3. Click Add another person for each extra team member.
  4. Click Next. Working alone? Click It's just me instead.

Heads up: If someone needs the SupaDay app on their own phone, skip them here. After setup, invite them by email from Team → Staff. See how to add staff members.

Tell SupaDay how clients come in

On How do clients usually come in?, pick the option that sounds most like your salon:

  • Mostly walk-ins: clients come in and wait their turn
  • Mostly appointments: clients book a time ahead
  • Both: a mix of walk-ins and bookings

Click Finish setup. Your choice only changes which next steps SupaDay suggests. Every feature on your plan stays available.

Pick your first next step

The last screen says your salon is ready and shows two next steps based on your answer:

  • Take your first walk-in opens the turn tracker so you can see whose turn it is and add a client.
  • Add your first booking opens the calendar. Tap a time to book a client.
  • Turn on online booking opens Settings so you can switch on Let clients book online. If you haven't confirmed your email yet, do that first. Check your inbox for our email.

Walk-in salons start in the turn tracker. The person marked Next takes the client.

Below the steps, Get the SupaDay app has the App Store and Google Play buttons for your phone or tablet. Click Go to my dashboard to skip ahead.

  1. Tap a free time
  2. Type the client’s name
  3. Pick a service
  4. Booked

Appointment salons start on the calendar: tap a time, pick the client and service, save.

Finish the Get started checklist

Your admin dashboard shows a Get started card with four steps. Each one ticks itself off when it's done:

  1. Set up your services and opening hours
  2. Add your staff and their working hours
  3. Take your first booking or walk-in
  4. Turn on online booking and share your link

Click Start next to a step to jump to the right page. Once online booking is on, the card also shows your booking link with a Copy for Instagram button. Click Hide to put the checklist away.

Replay the tour

On the computer, SupaDay shows a short tour of the main menu the first time you sign in. To see it again, click your avatar at the top right and choose Take the tour. You can also click Show me around on the Get started card.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I go back and change my answers after setup?

Yes. Everything from setup can be changed later. Services are under Team → Services, opening hours and time zone are in Settings, and staff are under Team → Staff. The setup screens themselves only appear once.

Why did SupaDay already fill in services and prices?

They come from the business type you picked when you signed up. They're typical prices to save you typing. Edit or remove anything that doesn't match your menu before you click Looks good, next.

What's the difference between adding staff here and inviting them?

Staff you add during setup have no login. You manage their schedule and bookings for them. If a team member wants to check their own schedule on their phone, invite them by email from Team → Staff after setup instead.

I clicked Skip for now. How do I finish setup?

Open your admin dashboard and use the Get started checklist. The first step takes you back to setup until you've added a service.

Why can't I turn on online booking yet?

New accounts need to confirm the owner's email before the booking page and booking texts go live. Look for our email in your inbox (or tap Resend email in the yellow bar at the top of the app), then switch on Let clients book online in Settings.
